Jardin de l'Orangerie

Covering about ten acres of land opposite the Council of Europe, the Parc de l'Orangerie is Strasbourg's largest public park. Its broad avenues were established in the eighteenth century by "Le Nôtre", who also designed the gardens at Versailles. After the French Revolution the city commissioned the Josephine Pavilion in honour of Napoleon's Empress, and 140 orange trees were planted. The park is a place where people come to walk, jog, read or bring their children to visit the small zoo.
