This gothic masterpiece took several centuries to build, and is perhaps most easily recognised by its single spire, built between 1399 and 1439 (40 years, which was fast for the period). Its stained glass windows made up of 500,000 pieces of glass constitute one of the most outstanding examples of its type in Europe. The astronomical clock dating from the Renaissance was the result of a collaboration between artists, mathematicians and craftsmen.
